| THE TRAIN DIRECTION DETECTOR | ||||||||||||||||||||
| The Direction Detector senses which direction a train is moving. It automatically activates the "reverse running" terminals of the signalling units. It can also be used with the IRDOT-P to allow points
to be switched by trains travelling in one direction but not the other.
A very low current is taken from the track to sense the polarity at the rails (which it remembers even after track power is removed). The connections from the track are electrically separate from the rest of the wiring (provided by built in opto-couplers). Terminal D1 or D2 switches to 0 volts depending on the track polarity. These connect to the "reverse running" terminals of the signalling units. Alongside D1 and D2 are direction indicating LEDs. The unit is powered from the same supply used for the IRDASCs or IRDOT-Ps. |
